ACADEMIC INTEGRITY 2 Academic Integrity and Plagiarism Academic integrity involves students producing and submitting their original works and giving credit to other people’s ideas and thoughts. It is an issue that most educational institutions do take seriously. A good number of these institutions have put in place academic and moral codes that are designed to help guide works of scholarship. Boehm, Justice and Weeks (2014) point out that academic institutions such as universities exist to create and contribute to knowledge, and this can only be attained if the highest level of academic integrity is observed. This paper shall be based on a thesis that academic integrity espouses values of good scholarship and helps institutions build a good reputation through production of high quality graduates. Academic integrity is a broad concept that constitutes a number of things. First, a student is expected to avoid cheating on academic evaluations or assignments. This means that the work submitted by a student should be his or her effort. A student may cheat by submitting
