Unformatted text preview: Makayla Carson ENGL 1302.013 MW 8:00-9:15 Ms. Riske 25 January 2018 Character Analysis True Detectives is the tale of two state detectives in Louisiana who are exploring not only
a murder but, investigating how this case deals with human nature. This Episode takes place in
two time periods, one being during the time two state detectives are being investigated for the
murder of Dora Lange that had to happen in January 1995. The papers from this case were
destroyed when Hurricane Rita came through. The other time period is dealing with the case in
the 1990’s by ﬁnding out the details of the case to catch the murderer. I would like to introduce
you to one of the state detectives who is heavily involved in the murder investigation in 1995, Rust Cohle. Rust can be described as a good detective, a loner, and a troubled man. Rust Cohle is dedicated to his work by obsessing over every detail of the crime by keeping a
large ledger book for sketching out what he sees in the crimes scenes. This earns him the
nickname of “The Taxman” because he is unlike other ofﬁcers who carry a small notepad. Rust
is a good detective by being very obsessed with this case in 1995 because he wants to ﬁnd who
