According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Schizophrenia interferes with an individual’s ability to make decisions, think clearly, relate to others and manage their emotions (n.d.). Schizophrenia affects about 1% of Americans; it commonly occurs for men between the late teens and early 20s and late 20s to early 30s for women (Nami). Lisa Jones is a 49-year-old female who suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia but denies she has illness. Schizophrenia affects how people think and behave. Lisa could be suspicious of others which could be triggering her paranoia. Hearing hallucinatory voices or non-verbal forms, such as laughing, could lead to Lisa’s rants. A main barrier with Lisa receiving treatment is she is in denial and is not on any medication or receiving any therapy to help her with this illness. Although Lisa receives Medicaid being denied Social Security could make her feel like no one cares about her illness and doesn’t want to help her.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
