Why a lot of older people have apple shaped body shapes. - Visceral fat is deeply intertwined with organs Metabolic Syndrome -BMI over 30 -High fasting blood sugar -Elevated triglyceride -Low good cholesterol (HDL) -Hypertension (high blood pressure) Don’t be convinced that your genetics is what shapes you - Genetic only makes up about a third - About is half of transmissible - Cultural transmissible is like eat more fat foods in the south and more leafy plants in Asian countries Leptin - Essentially tells you when to stop eating (when you are full) - OBOB has no leptin (the fat mouse) - Grelin tells you when to eat Adipocytes: Size and Number - Fat cells - Most efficient way to increase fat cell mass is through hypertrophy - Fat cell size increases, when losing weight you decrease the size of the adipocyte not how many there are - Hyperplasia only applies to morbid obesity
