Whenever someone mentions virtual reality, my mind immediately thinks about the new up-and-coming fad for video games in which players are given high-tech headsets and controllers in order to find themselves immersed in a simulated, yet highly realistic universe. However, back when Ray Bradbury decided to write “The Veldt” in 1950 (I think), such advanced technology was not around and perhaps not even imaginable. So instead, Ray Bradbury created a virtual reality in which the user creates these simulated, yet realistic world using only their imaginations without the the help of any elaborate technology system. “The Veldt” tells the a rather chilling story of two children who constantly played in their “virtual reality room”. Using only the power of their imaginations, they were able to produce any scene and any scenario they wanted, yet they always chose to play in the burning sun of the African Veldt. One night, the parents of these children hear them crying for help and they assume it is coming from this room. So they rush in and find themselves alone in the veldt with
