CH. 6 Study Questions 1. What were some of the differences between the British and American pop scenes in the 1950s and early 1960s? There were major differences between the British and American pop scenes in the 1950s and early 1960s. In England, there were only three radio stations to choose from, all of which were run by the government sponsored BBC. There were also only four major record labels willing to give wannabe pop stars a chance. Due to this, American records dominated English charts. 2. Describe how John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote songs in the early years. In the early years, John Lennon and Paul McCartney worked extremely hard to write many of the Beatles songs. The two were quite competitive with one another and turned songwriting into a friendly competition. The two also bonded over the loss of their mothers, which they later made songs about. 3. In what ways did songs written by Lennon differ from those written by McCartney?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
