Assignment #8 1. Case study for Dana Smith (Specific Phobia) Dana is a 55 year old female, married, and with a very normal routine. She likes outside activities as long as it doesn’t involve insects, specifically worms. Dana has a specific phobia to worms and has had it since she was a little girl. Any time Dana sees this animal, even on television, it immediately provokes her fear and anxiety. She says that as a child one of her uncle’s traumatized her by scaring her with a worm and since then she has not been able to overcome this fear. She gets palpitations, sweaty hands, and rapid breathing every time she has an encounter of any nature with this animal. Her anxiety is so intense that she even avoids any TV shows that involve any type of animal theme, just in case they happen to show a worm. Dana compares her fear and anxiety to a feeling of having a heart attack. 2. Case study for Sarah Lopez (Social Phobia) Sarah is a 17 year old teenager in 11 th grade. She is an A, B student and a very calm girl. Sarah loves acting and singing since she was a little girl and would like to become an
