Objective of the experiment: To determine of a chemical formula of an unknown copper chloride by finding its moles ratio. We can determine the water of hydration in a copper chloride hydrate sample; conduct and observe a reaction between a solution of copper chloride and unknown hydrated and dehydrated samples; use the results of the reaction to determine the mass and moles of copper and chloride in the reaction; and, lastly, calculate the empirical formula of the compound of copper and chloride.
