Parks, Jerome Quarterman, Lucie Thibault • TCoE defined sport as all forms of physical activity which through casual or organized participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels. • Sport management is the study and practice of all people, activities, businesses, or organizations involved in producing, facilitating, promoting, or organizing any sport-related business or product • Sports are a collection of separate activities items that can count • Sport is a collective noun that includes all sporting activities • Extreme sports are newer sports involving adrenaline induce action • Sport performance as offered to the consumer as a participation or spectral product • Sport production: product needed or desired to produce or to influence the quality of sport performance • Sport promotion: products offered as tools to promote the sport product • Sport marketing, sport enterprise financial structures, and sport industry career paths are the 3 unique aspects • Networking: the building up or maintaining of informal relationships, especially with people who could bring advantages such as job or business opportunities • The sheer power of sport mandates that people who wish to manage it acquire a sound understanding of its historical, psychological, sociological, cultural and philosophical dimensions • Personnel management and planning, communication skills, and the ability to interact with people are all required • Critical thinking is very important in this work force • World of sport is growing rapidly • Sport managers must deal with hard questions that require an understanding of ethical principles and moral psychology • Sport managers worldwide will be conscious of environmental concerns and will incorporate this understanding into their business practices • The more countries and athletes are participating in international events In this chapter we defined the differences between sport and sports.
