Contaminating Groundwater 2 Contaminating Groundwater All ecosystems, countries and communities have in thing in common, which is the quality of water. Clean water is free of harmful contaminants, which is needed for the survival of all species. It is said, “Water is crucial for the well-being of people. Due to industrialization, growing population, illiteracy the provision of safe drinking water will undergo global indust near the future” (Mishra & Nandeshwar, 2013). This is because over a billion people do not have the access to safe nor clean drinking water. Furthermore, water that is not safe nor sanitized gives opportunity for diseases and viruses to travel. Water that is not safe is extremely hazardous and dangerous, this impacts all species. Climate change and mankind actions is an influential to the quality of water. “Water quality research is very important to our society because it gives us insight on contamination issues, brings up awareness and allows us to learn preventative measures” (Gunnarsdottir, Gardarsson & Andradottir, 2013). Also, it can tell us how the climate change is affecting our water and how bad mankind is depleting our water. Since, diseases and viruses can travel through dirty water, having water research we can identify such diseases and viruses that travel through dirty water. In Peru, there was a similar testing for groundwater on the basis of harmful substances that may have acute and chronic effects. “All water samples tested from Saramuro and Trompeteros sites, and one out of four sediment pore water samples from Trompeteros, were found to be mutagenic (P<0.001). One sediment pore water sample in Saramuro was determined to have a measurable toxicity (Microtox EC sub (50) =335.1 mg/l), and in Trompeteros, the EC sub (50) in water and sediment pore water ranged from 25.67 to 133.86 mg/l. Peruvian crude oil was mutagenic using the TA98 strain with metabolic activation, and the EC sub (50) was 17.18 mg/l. The two areas sampled had very high PAH concentrations that were most likely associated

However, since most of the samples were mutagenic, it is thought that there is a greater potential for chronic effects” (Reategui- Zirena, Stewart, Whatley, Chu-Koo, Sotero-Solis, Merino-Zegarra & Vela-Paima, 2014). As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
