Lab Report 13 Acid-Base Titration Experiment Purpose In this experiment, we will determine the molarity and mass % of acetic acid in vinegar by titrating it with a standardized NaOH solution. We will prepare the NaOH solution by means of titration with KHP. Theory The concentration of an unknown acid or base can be determined exactly by means of titration. At the end point of the titration process, the color of the indicator changes from one color to another, which indicates the equivalence point of the reaction (the reaction has gone to completion, one reactant has been completely neutralized by the other). In order to determine the concentration of one of the reactants stoichiometrically, we must first determine the concentration of the other reactant (acid or base) by means of standardization. In this experiment, we will standardize the NaOH base solution by titrating KHP (potassium hydrogen phthalate) with it: NaOH + KHC 8 H 4 O 4 --> NaKC 8 H 4 O 4 + H 2 O Because the mole ratio of NaOH and KHP is 1:1, at the equivalence point, the number of

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
