THE PHILOSOPHERS 2 The 18 th century seem to mark the beginning of human awareness and enlightenment. All conventions and traditions in 18 th century appeared to attract dire opposition from the philosophers who emerged at the time. Society for far too long have lived on the whims and discretions of traditional authorities and religious dogma. At 18 th century maverick philosophers began to challenge the established dogmatic traditions and conventions through rationalization, logics and science. The enlightened philosophers believed in achieving improved lives through science, philosophy, enlightenment and political reformations. Isaac Newton was one of the instrumental scientists who brought a whole new realization and awareness to society. The scientific revolution sparked the engine of awareness at 18 th century. Newton’s contribution through the discovery of gravitational force was a manifestation of new understanding of nature and world. It was revealed that nature itself was rationally constructed per natural laws and from this revelation human society had to be logically and rationally organized (Turner, 2013). Newton stressed the need to emphasis intellectual inquiries on physical evidence as opposed to metaphysics. Knowledge can be obtained through experience. Newton contribution realized empirical investigation and that all knowledge to be socially accepted must be physical proven and applicable. Concrete evidence as tools for
