Tata Chemicals Limited 1) Company Profile Tata Chemicals Limited (TATA CHEM) founded in 1939, is a part of TATA group of companies. The Company was incorporated on 23rd January1939, at Mumbai. The Company Manufacture salt, by products of salt, alkalies, heavy chemicals and insecticides and flux technical and battery grades.Company has annual turnover of more than Rs5800 CRORE and is part of TATA group. TATACHEM comprises four SBU - Chemical-SBU, Fertilizer- SBU, Phosphate-SBU and Food Additive-SBU. The Tata Chemical Limited operates the largest and integrated inorganic chemicals complex in India at Mithapur which produces 35 basic chemicals of which soda ash is the major product. TATACHEM holds a predominant position as a leader in the soda ash industry. The inorganic chemical complex of TATA CHEM is the largest not only in India, but also in this part of the world and ranks among the most self-reliant, energy efficient and water efficient operations anywhere in the world .A pioneer and market leader in the branded iodised salt which has a highest purity in the country. The Phosphate- SBU has been acquired recently from HLCL and plant is located at Haldia which is one of the most energy efficient plant in India. Tata Chemicals Limited (TCL) is a global company with interests in chemicals, crop nutrition and consumer products. It is the world's second largest producer of soda ash. With manufacturing facilities in India, UK, the Netherlands, Kenya and USA, TCL is the world’s most geographically diversified soda ash company, with an efficient supply chain that can service customers better and faster across the globe. Now India is emerging as a global manufacturing hub India leads the market in off-shore back-office but as a manufacturing centre, it lags behind China and Thailand but now India is beginning to be recognized in skill-intensive manufacturing industries requiring technical expertise. There are many reasons for investment in India such as 1. Human Resources There are abundant qualified engineering and technical workforce in India. India produces 400,000 graduate engineers every year though there is a large pool of unskilled labour. So India is a great mine of Human Resources. 2

Global majors such as Motorola, HP, Cisco Systems and others are increasingly relying on their Indian operations. 3.
