Academic language is the language students are taught in school for their curriculum. For instance, there are content specific vocabulary, and grammar and punctuation. There are a couple of terms that are used across all subjects. On the other hand, social language is much more informal. Social language is what is used for everyday communication amongst peers and outside of school. There are teachers that find using social language with students effective because it creates authentic relationships. Meanwhile, others believe getting involved in students’ lives outside of school gets complicated so they use academic language to keep things professional. Moreover, when I am a teacher I will create a balance between academic and social language in my classroom setting. I believe balance is key because this will allow me to get to know my students personally, but still have boundaries that let them know they have to respect me. My classroom environment will feel safe and comfortable; students will be able to express
