QUALITY PATIENT INDICATOR PROPOSAL 2 Quality Patient Indicator Proposal- Milestone Four Adequate staffing is crucial to providing professional nursing value. Current nursing staffing systems are often outdated and inflexible. Greater benefit can be derived from staffing models that consider the nurse-to-patient ratios and can be adjusted to account for unit and shift level factors (Avalere Health, 2015). Some of the factors that contribute to necessity of increased staffing level include the acuity and complexity of patients, flow of admission, discharge, transfers, competency of staff, layout of the unit and resources and technology available to provide care. If we can identify the flaws within a system, we can understand how to correct errors that may cause patient harm. It is important to understand the areas of deficiencies where it is affected due to low staffing. “System tracers refer to 6 topics that involve general procedure in an entire institution in regards to data management, infection control, medication management, National Patient Safety goals, contracted services performance monitoring, and incident or error reporting” (Siewert, 2017). As a team, build high-level process map for all patient care areas that were traced. Staffing can affect the care provided and directly impact the quality of outcome.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
