My response is in relation to the nursing profession. Since the Nightingale age and the integration of the feminist perspective, increasing gender exclusivity has arisen within the profession, creating possible discrimination toward men in nursing, O'Lynn's work, (as cited in Whiteside, 2015). While this discernment decreased near the end of the 20th century, nursing remains a female-dominated profession throughout the world, often related to enduring gender- specific stereotypes. According to Whiteside, & Butcher (2015), gender stereotypes may fuel a belief that individual men are not capable of compassion or sensitive care, are unsuitable in a caregiving role or that their use of touch is sexual rather than therapeutic.
