I found the study you chose very interesting and informative. The practice of touch in healthcare has several dynamics, both positive and negative. In the study by Kelly, M. A., Nixon, L., McClurg, C., Scherpbier, A., King, N., & Dornan, T. (2017) it states, there has been research in medicine, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy. While this primary research has broadened the scholarship of touch beyond nursing, it has tended to perpetuate the divide between communicative and procedural touch. In nursing, touch has always been view as showing compassion, caring and healing. People respond to a caring touch and trust is established often just by laying a hand over a patient’s hand. In an older study conducted by Edwards (1998) it states, how patients and nurses perceive the use and possible abuse of these encounters is the subject of this research. Data were collected through participant observation and semi-structured interviews with staff and patients.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
