2.01 Revolutionary Ideas Overview The Declaration of Independence is an extremely imperative document to the U.S.A. The Declaration of Independence’s main purpose was to explain why the colonies to leave Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was structured by lists of facts. Then it takes the action they are taking and summarizes it. Principles of Popular Sovereignty Popular sovereignty is the “principle that the authority of the government is created and sustained by the consent of the people.” Saying “When in course of human events, it becomes necessary for one person to dissolve the political bands which attached them with another & to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate & equal station to the Laws of Nature, and of Nature's gods entitle them a respect to the opinion of mankind requires they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."
