PEPE 1 Jacob Pepe HIST 1302.01 Spring 2018 Response to Documentary (Films on Demand) Week #4 Theme: Roosevelt Corollary Date: 18 February 2018 The film, The Common Cause (1939-1944): Part 6—Ken Burns: The Roosevelts, An Intimate History , is about President Franklin D. Roosevelt and certain events he had to experience and deal with during the World War II era. Eleanor Roosevelt, Roosevelt's wife and the first lady at the time, had been through a lot in this time as well. She felt that Roosevelt had done enough to prove himself in history. She got invited to go to Chicago, but wanted to be coaxed to go by the president. She then attended a rally for the party nomination for her husband, and told the public to rally for a cause greater than themselves. Henry Wallace was nominated by FDR to be his vice president, which led to an uproar of people saying “he’s too liberal” and not a right fit. But Franklin D. Roosevelt refused to be nominated by his party if he did not have Wallace by his side. This is the bigger cause Eleanor Roosevelt was talking about. President
