Andrea Garcia History 8 Response #4 John F. Kennedy, Speech on Civil Rights (1963) The President John F. Kennedy speech was very powerful for me. As the president and a human being, Kennedy speaking and pleading to congress to change their rights to be equal to everyone no matter the color of their skin was amazing. Kennedy is known for being one of the best president that this country has had and after reading this speech, I understand why. I love that he points out how in the time of war, there is no segregation. They accepted both white and black people. He also says in his speech “We preach freedom around the world, and we mean it and we cherish our freedom here at home; but are we to say to the world, and much more importantly to each other that this is a land of the free except Negroes” (274). This passage really spoke to me because I feel with everything that is going on in this world and this
