LAB_9: WiFi and Mobile Device Monitoring : Air Crackvvs. Kismet 1 How does each application discover networks or devices? Kismet is sniffer tool which identifies the networks by passively collecting and detecting networks which allows the user to see the hidden networks via the network data analysis.   Kismet is a wireless network detector, sniffer, and intrusion detection system. Kismet works predominately with Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11) networks, but can be expanded via plug-ins to handle other network types. It puts your wireless client adapter into RF monitor mode ie; rfmon mode, where the wireless client is not associated with any access point but it listens to all wireless traffic. Aircrack may be defined as a set of tools to assess WiFi network security. It focuses on different areas of WiFi security: Monitoring: Packet capture and export of data to text files for further processing by third party tools. Attacking: Replay attacks, de-authentication, fake access points and others via packet injection. Testing: Checking WiFi cards and driver capabilities (capture and injection). Cracking: WEP and WPA PSK (WPA 1 and 2). The first thing to do is looking out for a potential target. The aircrack-ng suite contains airodump-ng for this - but other programs like Kismetcan be used too. Prior to looking for networks, you must put your wireless card into what is called “monitor mode”. Monitor mode is a special mode that allows your PC to listen to every wireless packet. This monitor mode also allows you to optionally inject packets into a network.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
