Brief history and background for its establishment The starting point of this hospital goes back to the year 1930 when a building was constructed as barracks to house some of the defense personnel of British Empire. There is a plaque at the entrance to this hospital that commemorates the start of this building in the year 1930. The stone of this building was laid on 10 th January, 1930 by the then Viceroy and Governor General of India Lord Irwin. The architect of this building is typically British and more so at the main entrance of the building. The main entrance of the building is still preserved in its original glory and is currently the office of the Medical Superintendent of Lok Nayak Hospital – The present name for the old Irwin Hospital. 5-6 years after the commissioning of these barracks, it was felt necessary that a hospital should be started in the center of Delhi. These barracks were therefore converted into a General Hospital in 1936 with 320 indoor beds. The hospital was named Irwin Hospital after the name of the then Viceroy Lord Irwin.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
