1. (? points) A paper company produces as its main product a low acid content paper to be used in high quality magazines. It makes its paper from three sources: wood chips, used newsprint and used writing paper. All three products must be pulped, and the used papers must have ink washed out. The cost per ton, acid content and pulping and ink washing times required per ton of these three materials are tabled below: Cost per Ink washing Pulping ton Acid (%) (hours/ton) (hours/ton) Wood chips $65 7 NA 3 Used newsprint $15 4 3 2 Used writing paper $35 1 2 2 The company’s pulping facility operates 80 hours a week, and the ink washing facility operates for 40 hours. The paper produced must have an acid content of no more than 3%. If necessary, the acid content of the wood chips can be reduced to 2% by a treatment which costs $24 per ton, takes two hours per ton, and operates 30 hours per week. Determine how many tons of each of the three should be purchased to meet the demand for 65 tons of paper over a three week period at minimum cost. 1

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
