Matt Adams Chuck Jarrell, MKT 450 Ebay SWOT Analysis Ebay’s biggest opportunity is shaping our youngest generation’s view of the site. Most millennials and baby boomers view Ebay as a site for used items that are auctioned off. To keep up with sites like Amazon, Etsy, and other retail sites, Ebay needs to shed its shell of auctioning and expand into the world of online browsing. Laura Stevens (2016), of the Wall Street Journal, says, “EBay Inc. wants people to think of it as a first stop for all online shopping, not as an auc- tion house of stuff from grandma's attic.” Ebay needs to make itself attractive to those that shop by scrolling through posts and feeds. The social media world has greatly affected the way we use the internet. If Ebay’s search and profile settings become more personalized, shoppers could fine tune their Ebay shopping experience causing them to not use it only for used or auctioned off items.
