1 Daniel Welter English 105 01-29-2015 Professor Heather Brody Why Editorials Against Marijuana Can Smell As time progresses, the involvement of marijuana use becomes more popular with the younger crowd. Many are on the side of legalizing marijuana use, while a lot of people are against it. The article “5 Reasons Why Legalizing Marijuana Stinks,” shows in 5 ways why it would be bad to have marijuana legalized. The speaker is obviously against the idea of legaliza- tion, and the reason why he brought the topic up so recently is because the United States are starting to legalize the full use of marijuana (not medical). The reason why he wrote this is to in- form parents, young adults, and students of the unhealthy lifestyle that marijuana can cause. One important claim that the speaker writes is that marijuana can “increase the chance of psychosis by 40 percent,” according to the research from The National Institute on Drug Abuse   (Grady, 2014, para. 5.). The way the speaker makes his article not as credible, is that he bluntly uses hard facts on the negative effects of marijuana and but he rarely includes the source of where he got the information. The speaker’s tone for this article can make one feel that marijuana is very bad, it will ruin ones future, and it will ruin ones body if taken part in using it. The article made it seem like the speaker was very against marijuana and it seemed like he was 2 pretty angry at the fact that the U.S. is now legalizing marijuana use. This article especially shows his attitude toward marijuana in the beginning paragraph where he says that “we might as

Overall, the writer may seem to persuade his intended audience at first glance, but rhetorically does not hold well with the effectiveness of logos and pathos, because he lacks the sources to prove his statistical analysis and is ineffective with the use of emotion to persuade his audience. The author writes to Christian parents, which is the most successful audience to write to be- cause parents, let alone Christian parents, are shown to worry about their children the most. J Lee Grady, the author, is involved in editing and writing Christian articles and books. He is also a Christian journalist. He has been involved in the Mordecai project, and he is the author of Chris- tian books such as “The Holy Spirit is Not for Sale”. First off, his informal resume shows that he

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
