Essay on Women as first responders at times of disaster: An unexpected event either natural or man-made which causes the harm to human and material is known as disaster. The lives and livelihood of the common people devastated by these natural or man-made disasters as these hazards strongly impact the economies throughout the world. The role played by people at the time of such disasters is crucial. Whether a small-scale disaster or a major calamity, community plays a vital role in making preparations for the emergency situations and managing at the time of devastation. No doubt, men and women both are important human entities which needs to work together in such difficult times. Their participation is crucial in managing the risks caused by the disasters. However, in managing emergency and risky situations, the role of women is often overlooked. Women not only take care of their own families and relatives. But as first responders these women are of great help to other families, children and animals. There are certain activities which are solely performed by women such as storage of food, acting as caregivers and other such items. Female certainly have the idea of how much food needs to be stored and what other household necessities are required in emergency. [1] Foreseeing risks and making appropriate preparations is the only possible way to successful disaster management. In order to make such preparations, both men and women should participate actively so as to minimize the impact of danger as much as possible.
