History 172 18 November 2015 “Second Industrial Revolution” The Industrial revolution started out as the production to new machinery from using your hands to machines that would help you do it better, for instance steam powered machines. The second industrial revolution was based on the invention of steel, which built railroads, and more technological advancements in machinery. Categories of the second industrial revolution that evolved from it were steel, electricity, and new chemical. These innovations brought an unbelievable technological advancement but sent a shock into our social economic system. For starters, steel was a major part of the second industrial revolution, which came from the making of iron. This technological advancement leads to the creation of railroads being extended all over. This meant that the railroads could carry more, and transport further distances, which help the economy, grow. “The United States was a huge country with abundant raw material. It processed the most extensive railroad network in the world, one that moved raw material and finished products at high speeds and low costs, allowing a quick return on invested capital.” (Facts on File)
