How many times have you sat and watched a bee go from one flower to another to another than zip away, off to the hive? Botanists use to spend hours painstakingly brushing pollen from one flower to another in order to achieve the perfect rose, the brightest daisy, the tastiest sweet pea. Both actions are forms of biotechnology. One natural and one man made. Humans have been messing with biotechnology for longer than we can remember in order to make that perfect rose. Though now the use of biotechnology is almost a regular thing in labs all over the world. We are looking to use science in order to help the world feed the population that is growing larger and larger each year but there is more to it than just feeding the world. Selection and cross-pollination remain the standard for making a better crop but with modern biotechnologies a number of new and specialized techniques have led to genetic modifications resulting in the development of hardier crops.
