Morgan Graham CJUS P-100 Blog Assignment #1 Cowardly or Expected? Throughout my life I have always wondered why police decide to do the things they do when they are faced with a problem. In class we have talked about police discretion which means they decide at a moments notice what will be best for the situation, but I cannot help but question the intentions of the school resource officer at the recent shooting in Florida. As everyone has probably heard by now 17 students were killed and many were injured at the school shooting in Florida. The article I found in The Atlantic discusses the fact that there was a school resource officer right outside the school that heard gunfire, yet decided not to enter the school. Many people are saying he is a coward because he could have potentially saved those 17 lives or even some of them, but he decided to keep himself safe. A student that survived the shooting was also quoted in the article saying, ““You’re despicable. You didn’t do your job. You were trained for this. You were armed. You had a bullet-proof vest.
