POLICY BRIEF 32PADM 550-Policy Brief 3Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) 2015Defining the ProblemThe Every Student Succeeds Act was signed by President Barack Obama in 2015. Thisact reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) that was then fifty yearsold (Congressional Digest, 2017). The ESSA built on the longstanding national commitment toequal opportunity for every student. Key areas in this act succeeds the no child left behind act of2002. There are two goals of the ESSA, requiring states to align their programs with college andcareer ready standards and extend the focus on equity by providing resources to students oflesser means, color and students with disabilities (Young, Winn, & Reedy, 2017, p. 706). The actrecognizes that leadership is a factor in achieving national education goals. MayBiblical Guidelines: The Bible does not specifically speak to education or the governments rolein the process.
