The English Restoration The period from 1660 to 1875 saw radical transformation in the Western Society, changes in the government and the establish of new nations came forth in the West. During the period of the commonwealth many members of the English nobility had been exile in France. The monarchy was restored and the English period from 1660-1700 is therefore called the Restoration.

Theatre Production in Restoration In theatre production, the most obvious difference between the English Renaissance and the Restoration was the appearance of women on English stage. London performers were hired for a specific period of time at a set salary and its Shakespeare companies died out. The restoration also saw the emergence of theatrical entrepreneurs who were often part owners of theatre buildings and companies.
