CONFUCIANISM AND DAOISM Confucianism And Daoism The history of religion can be said to have evolved a great deal as human beings evolved and sought to understand life. As a result, various theories have been brought forward by different philosophers. At a time when it might be confusing to pick a side, it may require one to analyze all the arguments to determine which parties to take. Religion in China has come a long way too to what is seen in the modern day. The ancient theorist in China had brought forward the Confucianism and Daoism theories which will be discussed at length in this paper. The paper will mainly focus on analyzing these philosophies from their primary sources. The analysis will be regarding their history, rhetorical language that was used to write them, the fundamental themes they brought across and lastly how they represented their core religious values. The paper will focus on analyzing primary sources of history on Confucianism and Daoism which comprise a broad spectrum of religion in China. Even though the two philosophies were never meant to be religions in the first place, many scholars have found a reason to treat them as such. The two ideologies’ primary difference is their focus. While Daoism concentrates on the life of an individual, Confucianism has a more comprehensive coverage focusing on the life of the society as a whole. Confucianism as a philosophy focuses on harmonizing relationships between individuals and the social order. It focuses on social units like families. These include links such as husband- wife or ruler -subjects arguing that human beings are teachable. Bestowing to this philosophy, people can be taught to better themselves or learn through contacts with the society. Daoism/ Taoism, on the other hand, focuses on creating harmony between an individual and nature. Developed from the word Tao which merely means “the way,” its primary call is to encourage peace teaching that people should not intervene in the events of life since this causes disruption

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
