PETC 3110-01 Movement Education- Spring 2018 Course Objectives The primary purpose of this course is (1) to introduce students to elementary physical education (ages 5-12), and (2) to inform students of the methods, instructional styles, and the curriculum design of movement education. The student will be able to: 1. Identify the physical, cognitive, social-emotional developmental characteristics of elementary level students, ages 5 to 12. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of basic body movement by being able to use the vocabulary (i.e., academic language) of the movement framework including movement concepts (What, Where, and How the body moves) and basic skill themes (locomotor, non locomotor, and manipulative skills). 3. Identify and/or create several movement activities based on the movement concepts (What, Where, and How the body moves) and basic skill themes (locomotor, non locomotor, and manipulative skills). Students will apply this knowledge in real settings. 4. Develop and use curriculum guides and lesson plans for elementary clinical practices. These lessons plans will use an edTPA format in preparation for the clinical experiences. 5. Select from one of the content areas of movement education: skill themes, skill concepts, gymnastics, and/or games and create lesson plans. 6. Identify and use instructional resources in the field of elementary physical education (e.g., Membership in professional organization, read professional periodicals, attends workshops, Internet resources).
