Chapter 1 (Introduction) 1. Abstract (usually written after the completion of the dissertation) A. The abstract contains a concise description of the study, a brief statement of the problem, explanation of methods and procedures. B. Summary of findings and implications in 350 words or less. 2. The Introduction section has a clear statement indicating that the focus of the study is on a significant problem in the church which is worthy of attention. This section summarizes past research on the subject in a concise manner. It provides a sample of Chapter 2. 3. The Problem Statement concisely states what will be studied by stating the factors which give rise to the situation under scrutiny. Contributing variables must be clearly identified. 4. Nature of the Study, Specific Research Questions, Hypotheses, Research Objectives are briefly and clearly described. State clearly and concisely what you are examining. 5. The Purpose of the study is described clearly and logically. 6. Conceptual Framework explains the concepts, ideas, theories which are being utilized. Biblical scripture may be a source here.
