Greek and Roman Architecture Of all architectural styles this planet has come to know, one of the most admired, as well as copied, comes from the Greek and Roman empire’s. The Greek and Roman people shared many building styles, such as the use of columns, and while they share very similar traits, they also project their own individual ideals. The Greek architecture for the most part were built with political purpose in mind, to promote pride for their nation within their people, or to celebrate success in a war through tribute to a patron diety. One such building would be that called Parthenon, which is one of the most famous examples of Greek architecture. Parthenon was dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena as an act of devotion to her and their faith. When looking at buildings such as the Parthenon, Erechtheion, or the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the column work can be seen to be very similar, straight up and down column construction with a flat roof.
