Critical thinking consumer of news Unit v11 submitted 12/17 Steps in becoming a critical consumer of news can be started by remembering the purpose of the media is to fabricate and construct stories to sell to an audience, not for educational purposes or being fair only to profit with high rating. These stories are intended to get the readers or viewer's attention in the way they are constructed to make them feel stronger about what they believe about their values, beliefs, prejudices along with how they view the world is all on the line. To construct a story the Journalist must find (i.e. what would or would not be a story, what part needs to be more or less vocal, being sure it has a big bold interesting headline, extend time lines, make the story relate to the one being constructed, while trying to be objective and unbiased. To become a critical consumer of the news the agenda must be understood, study the criteria that is used by the news to construct the story by deciding just what is a story, how to
