Linear programming spreadsheets are used in many ways. “Solving linear programming problems in a spreadsheet yields equations for maximizing business profits. As applied to business, linear programming typically involves an objective formula, such as unit profit times quantity sold. It also includes a series of formulas that constrain the objective formula's coefficients. One sample constraint formula involves the number of hours needed to manufacture the products referenced in an objective formula. Excel's Solver add-in provides a simple way to solve problems involving such formulas. Solver works backwards to find optimal inputs to the objectives and constraints you enter”[Kol18]. I think the main purpose of Linear programming spreadsheets to simplify the mathematics, when trying to solve a problem. A problem that would normally take hours to solve and be solve in just seconds on excel. In a previous class we had to solve a case study by finding a better way to forecast inventory. The forecast model had to consider the seasonal variation of demand. We used Excel’s Regression Analysis

What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
