To what extent do you agree that the production features of a particular scene can contribute to the film’s central ideas ? In The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont production features used in the scene when Andy enters Shawshank prison contribute to the film’s central ideas of institutionalization and freedom and imprisonment. Good how can you make this into a case statement so that you can argue for/against the negative effects of prison? The production features used in this scene include close ups, tracking, wide shot, lighting and low angles. You need a strong topic sentence – state which scene you are talking about. One way in this scene that the director uses production features to contribute to the film’s main ideas is through a wide, high angle tracking shot. The camera follows the prison bus as it drives towards the prison down a street lined with tall green trees and then the camera flies over the prison revealing the muddy, puddle covered prison yard.
