Last time that I stood in front of a group to speak I felt like throwing up, so I’ll be wearing a mask this time. It seems that we’ve all given four of the best years of our life for this moment. A long “ceremony” where you’re not allowed to clap or cheer and have to sit down and be quiet until it’s your turn to get your hand shaken. Congrats. As trivial as it may seem this is a special moment. We’re about to go out into the real world. However, for now we’re here and we were all probably told the same thing, put on a smile and be proud of yourself. But inside you’re probably all just tired and ready to get it over with and go home. That fake smile is what I want to talk to you about. The mask we’re all wearing and have been wearing every day. Each day you live through you put on a mask. Maybe you’re not a morning person and someone greets you with a hearty good morning, so you put on a smile and happily say it back. Or you’re talking smack about someone with your friends and then that same person shows up to join the conversation and suddenly you all act friendly and cheerful.
