RUNNING HEAD: MODULE 2 ASSIGNMENT- ETHICAL STANDARDS 2 AHIMA and AAPC Ethical Standards The American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) standards of ethical coding are a higher degree of standards associated with coding. If a violation occurs for a credentialed professional of AHIMA standards repercussions can lead to jail time or fines because AHIMA sets standards to comply with HIPAA rules and regulations. AHIMA can also revoke your credentials which will lead to the loss of your job and future job opportunities if the future presents those opportunities. The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Coding ethics is not regulated by any government standards. Violations which occur for these standards probably not lead to fines or jail time if a violation is reported.
