2 Atmospheric Issues Atmospheric Issues – Town Hall Meeting Speech Hello Ladies and Gentleman, I am sure many of you have been worrying about the state of our great city’s economy, and employment after the loss of the High Tech company, and the great amount of those jobs being sent overseas. As Mayor, I take this responsibility serious and wanted to find a balance of resident, economic, and environmental health of our city. A while back I met with 3 prospective companies which presented their plans to bring jobs back to our beloved Sparksville. The companies were recommended by the State Department of Economic Development, and all were approved to present their plans because of their respective environmental impact statements. The 3 companies were a warehouse distribution center, a hybrid car company manufacturing plant, and an oil refinery. Before meeting with the companies I had them narrow their pitches to three main points of great importance to our community: Jobs, Economic Development, and their impact on the Local Environment. I first spoke with a representative of “Direct 2 U Furniture” to discuss their distribution center proposal. The representative told me their plan would include 250 new jobs to our community, with a promise that these jobs would stay here, and they would not be outsourcing them. The economy would be helped because employees would be making money, shopping, and paying taxes to the community. In their opinion they would have “minimal impact” on the environment, because they required their trucks to be tested for emissions every 20,000 miles. In
