Before Nicolaus Copernicus discovered the heliocentrictheory, the theory on the Earth’s place in the solar system was that it was the center and all thingsrevolved around it or, the geocentric theory (“Geocentric Theory”). This theory was particularlypopular with the church because they always thought the Earth was not just some planet but theythought it was blessed by god. The heliocentric theory was published as part of Copernicus’ bookDe Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium(“Heliocentric Theory”).Although discovering this was agreat scientific accomplishment, was it a turning point? This would depend on if scientists wouldhave introduced their ideas to the public without Copernicus introducing this theory. To find outif the discovery of the heliocentric theory was a turning point the beliefs before and the aftermathof the discovery will have to be taken under analysis.Copernicus' heliocentric theory was aturning point because of it dispelling the geocentric theory and indirectly inspiring futurescientists to spread their ideas.Before Copernicus changed the world by developing the heliocentric theory he spentmuch of his scientific career doing research. Copernicus began to get interested in astronomywhen he was at the University of Cracow, which was seen as a school for the higher educatedwhere he studied under Professor Brudzewski, who was a famous astronomer. Later on in life hewent to Italy where he studied astronomy with Domenico Maria de Novara. While in Italy he got
