In Christian tradition, St. John was an apostle of Jesus and the author of three letters, the Fourth Gospel in the new testament, and possibly the writer of Revelation in the New Testament. He played a leading role in the early church at Jerusalem. John’s authoritative position in the church after the Resurrection is shown by his visit with St. Peter to Samaria to lay hands on the new converts there. It is to Peter, James, and John that St. Paul successfully submitted his conversion and mission for recognition. Unlike the other apostles/disciples, He’s the only apostle who’s recorded to have died of a natural death for his vocation. John specifically states his purpose in his writings, "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." Therefore, the purpose of John's Gospel is to "confirm and secure Christians in the faith." The Gospel of John also develops a Christology that is unique from the other Gospels. One of the
