Group 2: Archeology started out as, basically, treasure hunting. The first “archeologists” were treasure hunters, looters, antiquarians, and wealthy people who found artifacts for fun. Originally, they all collected for fun. The first archeologists did not try to explain the past, they collected treasure and antiques for fun. Collecting antiques and treasures became a pastime for the wealthy. During the Renaissance period people began questioning what they were finding and learning more about what they were finding.
