Trade was and is very important in the formation of cities and states. Trade allowed for the spread of goods and ideas. Because of trading, things like recordkeeping and writing came about. T he transfer of writing techniques was very important to the Assyrians contributions to the people of Anatolia. Assyrian merchants brought cuneiform, clay tablets in clay envelopes, and cylinder seals that were marked for traded goods, storerooms and written records to Anatolia. Although the Assyrian merchants wrote in Assyrian language, tablets and cuneiform was later adopted in Anatolia who wrote their own language with the imported techniques. Archeologists uncovered over 10,000 4,000-year-old tablets from Kanesh, which is what is remaining
