This review looks at the confirmation for longitudinal indicators of substance abuse in rising adulthood. This stage of development ranges from age 18-22. Developing at this stage.This review examines the evidence for longitudinal predictors of substance use and abuse in emerging adulthood. This stage is characterized by consistent movements into new social life and different social views with more freedom and smaller amounts of social control compared to adolescence. With this new stage comes the higher increased rates of substance abuse. Developing interventions at this stage becomes important according to the article to target these groups. This review focuses mainly on the emerging adult. Some indicators that were identified as predictors of substance use in adolescence sometimes shrinks in the study. Psychological hardiness and coping style as risk/resilience factors for alcohol abuse. Military Medicine, 177(5), 517–524. This article examines the high rate of alcohol use among the military personnel. This study examines the resiliency of military personnel as it relates to drinking in a military community. The article examines the relationship of hardiness and avoidance with a group of military personnel and their ability to cope. Results were that low hardiness and avoidance were factors in determining pragmatic alcohol use. Also, the studies show that when a military personnel is deployed that the chances of abuse increases.
