Abbigail: “My name is good in the village! I will not have it said my name is soiled! Goody Proctor is a gossiping liar!” (from Act 1 because doesn’t speak in act 2) I believe her external conflict is lying over and over again about witchcraft and trying to get rid of Elizabeth so she could have John Proctor to herself. Elizabeth: “She (Abbigail) wants me dead, John, you know it!” For Elizabeth I believe her internal conflict is her fear of getting replaced by Abbigail by Abbigail claiming that Elizabeth is a witch. Elizabeth: “And she may dote on it now—I am sure she does—and thinks to kill me, then to take my place. Elizabeth’s external conflict is her husband having an affair with their former servant, Abbigail. She has a hard time trusting her husband once she finds out about the affair and it seems like it put a big stress mostly on her. Proctor: “I may blush for my sin (affair with Abbigail).” Reply: I agree with the external and internal conflicts of both Hale and Mary. I believe Hale absolutely needs to lighten up and realize that not everything is going to be necessarily only religion. Also he has people state the commandments on command and makes sure they don’t forget them. For Mary warren I feel as though she is more of a follower than a leader. She is always / 10
