Jacolby Washington September 15,2017 Coming of Age in the Dawnland English 3- 6th Period The author’s purpose for writing “Coming of Age in the Dawnland” is to inform and persuade readers about the Native Americans. The author used imagery to convey the purpose of writing this story. Mann also used tone to tell why he wrote this story. The author’s tone is friendly and/or funny. For example, “ .... it was as if he had stuck out his and said, Hello, I’m the Wrath of God.” The author compared the way Tisquantum approached the Pilgrims to the Wrath of God. Another example is “Patuxet had plenty of fish and fowl…” Theses examples are used in the story to make the reader feel as though he/she is being taught. Secondly, the author uses imagery to convey his purpose for writing. In lines 15- 23 Mann tells how Tisquantum regarded to himself as a citizen. Another example is lines 119-135, these lines show the constellations in the community. The author
