GLOBAL WARMING: CAUSE AND MITIGATIONWeek 9 Assignment 2Global Warming: cause and MitigationMike HuntProfessor Illa MoskowitzIntro to Physical ScienceJune 2, 2016
GLOBAL WARMING: CAUSE AND MITIGATIONGlobal warming has received a great deal of attention during the past decade. It has an enormous impact on both humans and the environment, as the warming trend increases year by year, decade by decade, and so on. Global warming is caused both naturally and with human interaction, and lawmakers and scientists must weigh the information that they are presented to attempt to slow it down. Global warming causes both natural and anthropogenic climate changes. I’ll first go overa couple different natural causes of climate change. Natural climate changes are due to both orbital changes and greenhouse gasses. Orbital variations of the Sun initiates warming of the Earth, which triggers the release of greenhouse gasses carbon dioxide and methane, and these gasses amplify global warming. The greenhouse effect simply explained is that sunlight from theSun passes through Earth’s atmosphere and warms the surface, then radiated back to space. Most of the heat is absorbed by greenhouse gas molecules and re-emitted in all directions, warming the surface of the Earth. These natural cycles have been occurring for millions of years, long before humans entered the picture. This global warming trend has evolved over very long periods of time- thousandsand millions of years. Unfortunately, humans areresponsible for the anthropogenic climate changes within the past hundred years or so. The burning of fossil fuels by humans introduces carbon overload into the atmosphere, which in turn creates a major climateFigure 1: Greenhouse Effect
GLOBAL WARMING: CAUSE AND MITIGATIONchange. The speed of human caused climate change is happening at a much faster rate than that of earlier periods. (Hilderman, 2011)I believe that global warming is taking place, and at a rapid pace. Before taking this class, I’ve never really put much thought into it. However, after reading and researching all of the causes and effects of global warming, it has definitely opened my eyes. As I stated
