The jury selection that I have chosen is Bel Piacere, an aria from Agrippina. This aria was
composed by Georg Haendel and involves only voice and piano, sometimes including organ. A
fun fact about this aria is that it was composed by Niksa Lendic who was from Croatia. This is
why some croatian elements are embedded in the piece. The composer was a Baroque composer.
He wrote during the Baroque era and was famous for his operas. Haendel was was born in
Germany and then went on to be trained in Italy. After his extensive training, he spent most of
his life in England. He settled in England in 1712, and became a subject of the British crown on

exaggeration of motion and style to create a dramatic and exuberant feel. This connects to the
historical context of the time period because the baroque style was encouraged by the catholic
church. This was significant because historically, during the Reformation, many people were
criticizing catholicism for its corrupt offices. In response to this reformation. The catholic church
spurred a counter reformation, deciding at the Council of Trent to reaffirm catholic doctrine.
Baroque music's focus on religious themes aided this catholic counter reformation, as well as
